All American Pressure Canner: Which Model Number Fits

Last updated: August 22, 2026

Everybody who has canned for a while knows somebody with an All American. It is usually inherited, it is heavier than it looks in photos, and the owner will tell you within a minute that it has no gasket. That last part is the entire reason the brand exists: the lid and the body are machined to seal metal against metal, so there is no rubber ring to harden, crack or go missing the week the tomatoes come in.

The confusing part is the model numbers. There are six of them, they read like part codes, and the jump between two adjacent sizes can mean the difference between fitting your stove and not. This guide decodes the numbers using the manufacturer’s own capacity figures, and is honest about where these canners are actually sold.

Quick Answer

Which All American pressure canner should you buy?

  • The 921 is the standard household choice, listed by the maker at 19 pints or 7 quarts.
  • The 915 suits a smaller stove and a smaller lift, at 10 pints or 7 quarts.
  • The 910 is the small batch and small kitchen option, at 7 pints or 4 quarts.
  • The 930 and 941 are homestead sized and, per the maker, not for glass top ranges.

Bottom line: the model number tracks liquid quarts, but buy on jar capacity and on what your stove and your back can carry.

The Metal to Metal Seal, and What It Changes

All American canners seal with a precision machined lid clamped down by wing nuts, with no rubber gasket in the joint. Nothing perishes, nothing needs replacing every few seasons, and a canner that has sat in a basement for twenty years generally still seals once it is clean. That is the strongest argument for the brand.

What it changes in daily use is the routine. You tighten the wing nuts in opposite pairs, a little at a time, the way you would torque a wheel, and you keep the sealing surfaces clean and lightly oiled per the maker’s instructions. Overtighten one side first and it will vent steam at the rim until you back off and start again.

Where the Gasket Argument Actually Lands

A gasket canner is lighter and cheaper, and a replacement ring costs very little. The metal to metal design removes a consumable and adds weight and price. Neither is wrong, they are different trades, and we put the two philosophies against each other in Presto against All American.

Reading the Model Numbers

The number tracks liquid capacity in quarts, so the 921 is a 21.5 quart body and the 930 a 30 quart body. What you actually care about is jar capacity, and the two do not scale together, because a taller body double stacks pints while quart jars still stand in a single layer.

The maker lists the 910 at 7 pints or 4 quarts, the 915 at 10 pints or 7 quarts, the 921 and 925 at 19 pints or 7 quarts, the 930 at 19 pints or 14 quarts, and the 941 at 32 pints or 19 quarts. Note that the 921 and 925 carry the same jar load, so the extra liquid capacity buys you nothing in jars.

The Models Side by Side

Capacities and stove suitability below are the manufacturer’s published figures. The glass top column is the one that catches people out.

Model Liquid capacity Jar capacity (maker) Glass top per maker
910 10.5 quarts 7 pints or 4 quarts Yes
915 15.5 quarts 10 pints, 7 quarts Yes
921 21.5 quarts 19 pints, 7 quarts Yes
925 25 quarts 19 pints, 7 quarts Yes
930 30 quarts 19 pints, 14 quarts No, too heavy and wide
941 41.5 quarts 32 pints, 19 quarts No, too heavy and wide

The Household Default

For most families the 921 is the right size: two layers of pints, a full load of quarts, and still liftable when empty by one person. It is also the model that turns up most consistently on Amazon.

If Your Stove or Your Back Says Smaller

The 915 keeps the same seven quart jar load in a shorter, lighter body, which makes it the sensible pick for a compact range or anyone who does not want to wrestle a full canner across a kitchen.

Small Batches and Small Kitchens

The 910 is the smallest in the line and the one to look at if you can in half pints and pints, live in an apartment, or want a canner that stores in a normal cupboard.

The Gauge and the Weight

All American canners ship with a geared steam gauge and a weighted pressure regulator, and the maker supplies that regulator with 5, 10 and 15 pound settings. That combination is why owners like them: the weight gives you an audible, mechanical reference while the dial gives you a reading, so a drifting gauge is easier to catch.

The dial still deserves the same annual check any dial gauge gets from an extension service, because the recipe you are following assumes the pressure you think you are holding. Altitude adjustments come from your tested recipe source rather than from the canner, and our pressure canning walkthrough covers where to look them up.

Where These Are Actually Sold

All American runs through several channels at once, which is worth knowing before you assume a model is out of production. The 910, 915 and 921 appear on Amazon regularly, including color variants of the 921. The larger 925, 930 and 941 turn up more often at canning specialists, farm suppliers and the brand’s own store than in a general marketplace listing.

If you want a specific size or color, check availability per model rather than per brand, and compare what is in stock against the capacity table above. A model being scarce in one channel says nothing about the canner.

What Owners Complain About

Three complaints recur, and none of them is a fault. The weight is the first, since a cast aluminum body plus a full jar load is genuinely heavy and the biggest models are a two person lift. The second is the price, which is several times what a gasket canner costs.

The third is the learning curve on the wing nuts. Owners who report steam escaping at the rim have almost always tightened one side down before the others, and the fix is to work in opposite pairs in small increments with the canner warm. After a batch or two it stops being a thing you think about.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does an All American canner need a gasket? No. The lid and body are machined to seal metal to metal, which is the brand’s defining feature. Keep the sealing surfaces clean and follow the maker’s instructions on light lubrication, and there is no rubber part to replace.

Which All American model fits a glass top stove? The maker lists the 910, 915, 921 and 925 as suitable for glass top ranges, and says the 930 and 941 are too heavy and too wide for them. Check your range manufacturer’s own canning guidance as well.

Is the 921 or the 925 the better buy? The maker lists both at 19 pints or 7 quarts, so the extra liquid capacity of the 925 does not buy extra jars. Choose on price and availability, or step up to the 930 if you genuinely need 14 quart jars per load.

Steam is escaping around the lid. What now? Back the wing nuts off and retighten them in opposite pairs, a little at a time, rather than finishing one side first. Then check that both sealing surfaces are clean and free of food residue. Our troubleshooting guide runs the full sequence.

Do I still need to have the gauge tested? Yes. It is a dial gauge like any other, and extension services test them. The weighted regulator gives you a second reference, which is a good backstop rather than a replacement for the check.

Can I use it as a water bath canner? You can use the body as a large pot for boiling water processing with the lid off and a rack in the bottom, but the jars need to be covered by water, so check the depth against your jar height. Our water bath canner guide covers what that job actually needs.

The Bottom Line

Buy on jar capacity, not on the model number, and check the glass top note before anything else. The 921 is the household default, the 915 the compact alternative, the 910 the apartment option, and the two biggest models are homestead tools that need a gas burner and a friend to lift them.
